Ohhh how I loved Berber & Q! My kind of place! Firstly going on a Tuesday may have helped but it was easy to get to and easy to find parking which is always a good start. I just loved the look of the restaurant outside and inside – the decor is just amazing – simple yet effective. Then the customer service followed suit being very welcoming and informative – we were greeted with genuine smiles and you can just tell the team are strong.
Then the food!! Our waiter clearly explained to us how the menu works – so you can order some ‘Bits & Dips” to start with and then usually two people will order two options from the “Our Meats” section and this will come on a tray that will end up being shared and each person orders their own “Mezzo” option to accompany their meat.
The speed at which our food came was astonishing – piping hot and fresh as well. The hot wings on challah bread came first and let us know we were in for a treat because they were so different and very very very well seasoned – which we LOVED! I ordered what I was told is their signature dish (that people solely come for) which is the Cauliflower Shawarma (from Mezzo menu) and I did not think I could be so wowed by CAULIFLOWER! It was great and accompanied the lamp chops and pulled lamb shawarma so well! The flavour throughout was just so refreshing – a little party in my mouth.
We thought we must try a cocktail as they are popular for this also so went for the waiter’s recommendations. Where we both have sweet teeth – the Yotam’s Jam topped the Medina Margarita as the black sand on the glass was very salty – but the watermelon cocktail itself was yum!
We got to the end to realise we had forgotten to use the garlic sauce they specifically provided and tried a little – and we loved it – which upset us as it would have been a great addition throughout the meal.
I was continually astounded by the decor – even the toilet just had a cool look to it – using the authentic piping as taps! Even the takeaway bag! Great dining experience – definitely going back – probably for brunch too!
? : Parking on the parallel street after 6.30pm – nice and quiet area (on a Tuesday anyway)
? : Haggerston (overground) – 2 minute walk
